A New System of Student-Centred Schools
03 Nov 2009
A new school system that revolutionises the way students learn.
Why a new system? The education system we have now is essentially the same as the one we had 200 years ago. But the world is not the same, and schools need to evolve with the times.
Almost all aspects of social interaction have changed greatly, but our school system has remained essentially unchanged.
What is the student-centred school system?
It is a new secondary school system that does just as it says - it puts the student at the centre of their learning. It abandons the classroom. The focus is on learning, and not on teaching. It consists of three main components that make the need for classrooms, and all their inherent problems, redundant.
The system is designed to allow for great diversity in subjects, interests, abilities and backgrounds. Test results are either pass or fail, without discriminating, demotivating and arbitrary grades.
It is a system that encourages creativity and autonomy by making the student an engaged customer of learning.
The student-centred school system won approval to become a US Charter School in Cambridge Massachusetts, and is currently being used as a possible model for a UK City Academy.
