I think this is a fantastic proposal, and can be very easily applied to any city....Inner-city dwellers are affected by som many environmental and costing pressures and there must be more that can be done to address these.
Inner-city pollution for example is affecting the entire local population through health, environmental and social impacts. These impacts/pressures could be very easily reduced though greater use of 'clean' transport such as bicycles (ensuring safe and accessible routes), electric buses/trams (incorporating electricity from renewable souces as far as possible and ensuring accessibility through reduced cost and higher availability - while reducing the amount of cars allowed through the city centres) and enabling greater facilities for walking ( through initiatives such as 'walking to work', and the 'walking bus.' The impacts could be reduced, as this proposal states, through green roofs - I take this to mean better insulation to reduce electricity consumption and costs, but also to encourage growth of plant material on roofs and window ledges to absorb the carbon dioxide in the air thereby cleaning the air to create a less polluted inner-city.
