Affordable and Sustainable Living Project 2010
23 Jul 2010
Location: Lumby BC, Canada
The project includes designing a center for the community’s use that will serve as an example of sustainable and affordable living. The center will also provide a venue for teaching others about being off the grid, back to basics healthy living, spirituality without dogma - coming from the heart, and life style skills for the future.
The center will be a double 21 foot Yurt - joined together into an oval shape. The center will operate off the grid, integrate in with the natural environment of the Lumby BC area, and work as an example of how to have affordable sustainable housing works, while providing a community hall for community projects, and a place to teach and support others with there sustainable living projects.
The goal is to also create a society to which members can join, form there own organized form of barter to support each other with while managing the center.
This project is in the beginning stages and I will be updating and continuing to grow this proposal.

Great proposal, I'm wondering where this will take place initially?

Well I have clumbsy fingers today and reported that comment above me by accident! I was really meaning to reply directly to it. I want to update my proposal by saying that we did put up that Yurt this year. It was a 29 foot Yurt and the community got together to help in a Yurt Raising party. Unfortunately on September 25 (last Sunday) we had a unusual wind storm in our area. As we were waiting for the ground to soften up this fall before we tied the structure down - the wind caught the Yurt - picked up the roof and then dropped it back onto the Khana's. A big portion of them broke at that time. So we are disassembling the center till next spring when we can put it back up again. :o) I will be working on making new Khana's for it this winter.
For the winter we are back to using our homes on the property as a place to continue the events we host on the property.
I am going to take some time today to update my profile and let everyone know just what is going on in our neck of the world, Lumby BC.
