Poverty and curtailment on wasteful expenditure
03 Dec 2011
Curtailment on wasteful expenditure will be a step forward in ending poverty. Wasteful expenditure in wedding ceremonies is a case in point. Now a days hundreds of food items are served in wedding ceremonies costing as much as Rs 1000 per head. If food items are restricted to about 10 it would not cost more than Rs 200 per head. If head count is about 500, this would result in saving of Rs 3 lac per wedding. Assuming a lac of such weddings taking place in country like India every year , it would result in annual saving of about Rs 3000 crores. Such austerity measures are difficult to come by on their own. Anybody voluntarily opting for such measures would be branded miser in his community.
There is a possibility of austerity measures being adopted under guise of requirements of pressure groups. With this in view a group called ‘ Society against inequality (SAI)’ has been created. Looking for your active support to this group. Pl log on to http://in.groups.yahoo.com/group/Society_against_inequality/ for more details.
