The lean thinking principle comes from the Japanese business model - of minimum waste and maximum production. An aspect of lean production is "zero mistakes" - instead of mass-producing and then wasting resources correcting the mistakes, faults should be avoided to begin with.

We develop technology that releases emissions, and then try to help the state of environment. Wouldn't it make more sense to make environmentally friendly devices to begin with? Can't progress and ethical responsibility develop together?
