Take planes out the sky for one day a month
In regards to the recent travel problems caused by the volcano, why don't we voluntarily take planes out the sky for one day a month?

Cycle Freeway
Many discussions of transport in large cities like London, focus on how to invest enough in public transport to attract drivers to leave their car at home. However it is very hard for public transport to compete with the speed and door to door convenience that a personal vehicle provides.

Best Age to Start Driving
My proposal is to raise the driving age from 17 in the UK and 16 in the US (in many states) to 20 or 21.

In the UK the driving age is due to rise to 18. since only 1 in 8 drivers are under 25, but they account for a third of all road deaths. This change is of course welcome and needed.

Are We There Yet?
Part of shaping a future planet involves thinking about how we move around it.

There are about 540 million cars on the world's roads. If countries like India and China take up the Western world's driving habits this will rise to more like 3 billion.
Despite jams, lack of parking, expensive fuel, high car costs and pollution, advertisers sell us the dream of fast cars swishing along empty roads through unspoilt countryside, and we still buy it.
